Fortress Fortica
The Fortica fortress is located above Omiš and can be easily reached on foot from the city center. It takes an hour's leisurely walk to reach the 15th-century fortress, once used by pirates as a refuge from enemies. One of the most beautiful panoramic views in Dalmatia can be seen from the top of the fortress. You can see the beautiful canyon of the river Cetina, the islands of Hvar, Brač and Šolta. The entrance fee to the fortress is HRK 20.
Mirabella fortress
The Mirabela fortress was built in the 13th century and is located just above the old town of Omiš. In the past, this fortress served pirates as a vantage point from which they watched the enemies (the Venetians). Today, every year in Omiš, in memory of the turbulent history, the "Pirate Battle" is held between pirates and Venetians.
Sanctuary of St. Leopold Bogdan Mandić
You may have heard about the small village of Zakučac, where beautiful stone houses have been preserved, among which streams gurgling from the great Ilinac waterfall. The people of Zaku and Polji are proud of that place, and they built a shrine in honor of St. Leopold.
Church of St. Petra
Church of St. Petra is located on the right bank of the river Cetina. It was first mentioned in documents in 1074 during the reign of King Slavac. Early Christian stone parts (capitals, lintels, stone grills on the windows) were incorporated into the church. Next to the church was a Benedictine and then a Franciscan monastery.
St. Mihovil parish church
The parish church of St. Michael is located in Omiš. It was built at the beginning of the 17th century, as evidenced by the Latin inscription on the side door. The bell tower of the church was completed in the 18th century. The church combines features of Gothic, Renaissance and early Baroque. In the niche above the magnificent stone entrance there is a statue of St. Michaelmas and the window rose. On the walls of the church are the coats of arms of Venetian nobles and the coat of arms of the city of Omiš. In the church above the altar there are portraits of distinguished nobles.
City Museum
Stone fragments found in the village of Baučići are preserved in the city museum of Omiš. In the museum you can see fragments with Roman inscriptions from 33 and 51 BC, a marble portrait of the Roman emperor Tiberius, a large part of the ancient altar dedicated to St. Augusta, Roman tombs, superstructure, stelae, sarcophagi, etc.
Among the other cultural and historical sights of the city of Omiš, we definitely recommend a visit to the "House of the Happy Man", the church of St. Mihovila, the underwater wall of Mostin, which in the past was a trap for enemy ships, and the square.
